Twenty teak-and-rosewood bungalows, each 33 m², set among four hectares of riverside gardens in traditional Laotian architecture.

Breakfast every morning from 06:00 to 10:00, dinner every evening in the riverside restaurant, free Wi-Fi in every bungalow, and the run of four hectares of riverside gardens and walkways linking the bungalows to the restaurant and the river.

Rates are quoted in US dollars, per bungalow, per night, and start from US$63, breakfast and dinner included. The exact rate for your dates and current availability are shown on our booking engine.

Yes. Dinner is included in the room rate and served in the riverside restaurant until 21:30 (last order). Vegetarian options are available; tell us about any other dietary needs when you book.

Yes. Free Wi-Fi is available in every bungalow, at no extra charge.

Yes. Electricity is available 24 hours a day, and every bungalow has air conditioning, a ceiling fan and a private bathroom with a hot-water shower.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 20:00, and check-out is until 12:00.

Breakfast is served from 06:00 to 10:00, and the restaurant is open through the day until 21:30 (last order).

Most guests arrive by boat: either the public Mekong slow boat between Luang Prabang and Huay Xai, on which Pak Beng is the customary overnight stop, or aboard a Mekong Cruises vessel, a sister company. Both dock directly at the lodge's own riverside dock. A mountain road also reaches Pak Beng from Oudomxay, Luang Prabang or the Thai border.

Most travellers still arrive by river: it's faster and more comfortable than the alternative. A rough mountain road (Highway 2W) does reach Pak Beng too, from Oudomxay, Luang Prabang and the Thai border, usually several hours of winding driving. See our Getting Here page for the full breakdown.

Directly at Luang Say Lodge's own riverside dock. Wooden walkways connect the dock to the bungalows, restaurant and gardens, so no taxi or transfer is needed.

The slow boat and the Mekong Cruises itineraries both spend a single night in Pak Beng, arriving in the late afternoon and leaving early the next morning: enough for dinner above the river and a sunrise over the water. A second night gives you time to walk into the village, follow the hillside paths and watch a full sunset from the terrace. See our Activities page for what a second day looks like.

Pak Beng is a small, quiet riverside town whose daily rhythm follows the boats. Luang Say Lodge stands on its own four hectares of riverside gardens with its own dock, so you step off the boat straight onto the grounds and walk to your bungalow along wooden walkways. As on any journey, keep passports and valuables with you on the boat rather than in checked luggage.

Northern Laos has three seasons. November to February is the cool, dry season: clear skies and the most comfortable days on the river. March to May is the hot season, when the Mekong runs at its lowest. June to October is the rainy season: heavier afternoon showers, a high, fast river and the hills at their greenest. The lodge, the restaurant and the gardens are the same in every season; only the light and the level of the river change.
