Everything within walking distance

Guests can walk into Pak Beng village along the riverbank, follow the lodge's wooden walkways and hillside paths for a longer walk through the surrounding forest, or simply watch the sun set over the Mekong from the riverside terrace. None of it requires booking an excursion. Walk into Pak Beng
Pak Beng is a small river village a short walk from the lodge along the bank. Most travellers on the slow boat see it only from the water; from the lodge you can walk in and take it at its own pace: the ordinary day of a town that lives by the river.
Into the hills above the river
The lodge's four hectares sit at the foot of the forested hills behind Pak Beng. Wooden walkways wind through the gardens, and from their far end you can keep going on foot into the hillside, a longer walk with the Mekong always somewhere below.

The lodge stands directly above the river, and its terrace is a viewpoint in its own right. No excursion is needed to watch the light go off the water and the hills beyond. Many of the bungalow shutters open onto the same view.
Is Pak Beng worth staying overnight?
Every slow boat and every Mekong Cruises sailing spends exactly one night in Pak Beng, so most guests see it between a late-afternoon arrival and an early-morning departure: dinner above the river, a sunrise over the water, and the boat. A second night is what turns the stop into a stay: time to walk into the village, to follow the hillside paths, and to sit through a whole sunset from the terrace with nowhere to be. The bungalows, the restaurant and the gardens are the same either way; only the pace changes.
